I am originally from Florida, so the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill and its possible negative impacts hit close to home. But, it’s not a new issue. Censorship is bad for all of us. Long before today, other people have fought to protect our own freedom of thought and expression. Regardless of the material in question or the community of people who will be most immediately affected by an individual instance of censorship, by legally allowing the exclusion of ideas from the classroom or elsewhere, we further limit our own freedoms; we undermine our own abilities to consider all information and make our own critical conclusions with that information.
